Sunken Soviet Sub Komsomolets Leaking Radioactive Material
Low levels of radioactive strontium and caesium are leaking from a pipe on the wreck of the Soviet nuclear submarine Komsomolets. The findings were published on March 27, 2026 in Nature. The release levels are described as low, but the wreck continues to be a source of radioactive contamination.
