MMO legend Raph Koster builds Stars Reach with a fully simulated living world
MMO veteran Raph Koster is developing Stars Reach, a game featuring a deeply simulated living world where rain pools into rivers, forests catch fire, and cave ceilings collapse from overmining. Every cubic metre of every planet carries temperature, humidity, geology and hundreds of material properties. Players can melt stone into lava, shape new rock formations or accidentally trigger ecological disasters — a deliberate counterpoint to World of Warcraft's design philosophy.
