So, we have a controversy before GTA 6 ? Well, after the recent price announcement, this will come as little surprise. Rockstar recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on November 19 , with pre-orders available this past Thursday , on June 25. The company confirmed that the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with a standard edition price of $79.99, and that the Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99. The latter, which fits the pricing trend in recent gaming history, "amplifies the deepest and most immersive GTA experience yet with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story," according to a statement.

Chinese automakers are rapidly expanding new dealer networks across Canada.

Experts say entering America later could be surprisingly straightforward for brands.

Limited Canadian sales now matter less than bigger potential US opportunities later.

Several Chinese brands are preparing Canadian launches despite strict limits on vehicle imports and relatively modest sales prospects. But the appeal of the Canadian market has less to do with immediate profits and more to do with what it could teach manufacturers ahead of a potential future move into the United States, a new report says.

Canada recently opened the door to a limited number of Chinese -built EVs, allowing imports under a quota system that starts at 49,000 vehicles annually. That’s hardly enough volume to transform anyone’s balance sheet, especially when multiple brands are competing for the same customers.

Yet automakers including Chery, BYD, Changan and Lotus are all making plans. Some are recruiting dealers, others are carrying out testing programs, and several are already preparing vehicles for regulatory approval. And the reason they’re going to all of that trouble, Reuters reports, is that Canada’s automotive market looks remarkably similar to America’s.

Consumer preferences and budgets overlap heavily, regulations are broadly comparable and dealership structures operate in much the same way. That means any company that successfully establishes itself in Canada could gain valuable experience before eventually tackling the much larger US market.

Dan Hearsch, global co-leader of AlixPartners’ automotive practice, told Reuters that moving from Canada into the United States later would be like “flipping a switch.”

Eyes On The US Prize

Robert Karwel of J.D. Power Canada was even more direct in the same report, describing Canada as “the practice run for the US.”

That prospect continues to worry parts of the American auto industry. For years China was a growth market for Western brands, but now the tables have turned and Chinese automakers have rapidly expanded their global footprint over the past decade.

For now, the US remains effectively closed to China. Tariffs, restrictions on connected vehicle technology and political opposition continue to keep Chinese brands at arm’s length. Only this week Geely-controlled Polestar was effectively forced to pull out of the US due the Chinese software in its cars, despite Volvo (also Geely-controlled) recently being given a hall pass for the same thing.

But several executives appear confident that won’t always be the case.

“We definitely have the idea of selling cars in the United States,” Chery International president Zhang Guibing told reporters during a recent event in China, Reuters writes. “Everyone definitely has that idea.”

Generative AI is capable of some astonishing feats, with image and video generators, in particular, capable of creating stunning visual scenes based on text-based instructions. Plenty of the images you can generate, however, steal the distinctive styles of iconic artists – and many of these artists aren't best pleased.

Imitation is the best form of flattery

Filmmaker Tim Burton, who created heavily stylistic films like Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas , was among several artists whose iconic styles were showcased in AI-generated images.

BuzzFeed used AI to show us what iconic Disney movies would look like if they were directed by various filmmakers, with a series of garish and creepy results.

Burton, responding to the feature, told the Independent that seeing his own artistry imitated was akin to some cultures believing that capturing your image with a camera takes something away from your soul.

These comments also tap into the debate as to whether media generated by AI can ever be considered 'original' or 'creative' – or if they're simply crude averages.

The rise of AI in the creative industries

Burton's viewpoint mimics the thoughts of the iconic Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, the mind behind Studio Ghibli hits such as My Neighbour Totoro .

"You can make horrible things if you want but I want nothing to do with it. It's an awful insult to life," Miyazaki said in response to learning an illustrator was using AI to aid with his work on Boro the Caterpillar .

But AI has increasingly infiltrated the creative industries, with several major studios finding ways to use AI in the production process, but also on-screen elements , such as in the case of Lionsgate's partnership with Runway AI .

Despite the warning from filmmakers, the trend continues, with the likes of studio A24 also partnering with Google to build AI-powered filmmaking tools.
