Intel just dropped its latest graphics driver for Windows, but the 32.0.101.8860 package only mentions support for Arc G3 Extreme chipsets. Yes, the cheaper non-extreme APU technically hasn't made its way to any handhelds yet, but it did officially land alongside its flagship sibling, so support should be on the table.

As a reminder, the Intel Arc G3-series is set to power the best gaming handhelds and challenge chips like the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Effectively, the Panther Lake APU will reside within premium portables like the $1,700 MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, helping it pull harder fps punches than the chip with the ROG Xbox Ally X , but the non-Extreme version should be powering alternatives that aren't astronomically priced.

The bad news is that, as of July 2026, those promised standard Arc G3 handhelds are MIA. Videocardz highlights that Intel's graphics driver 32.0.101.8860 WHQL only lists the Arc G3 Extreme within its valid products, which suggests Intel isn't currently considering support for the vanilla variant.

(Image credit: Intel) I should stress that this doesn't mean non-extreme Intel Arc G3 handhelds aren't happening. The takeaway here is that, at least for now, the Arc G3 Extreme is the first and only new-gen portable chipset on the track, and the lack of a shout-out in the driver update could mean handhelds using the chip aren't imminent.

The last thing I wanted to see is no mention of Intel's "cheaper" Arc G3 chipset given the current climate. We've swiftly entered a reality where handhelds like the Steam Deck OLED , which used to start at $550, now cost almost a grand for the 1TB model, and the ROG Xbox Ally portables I criticized for being too expensive last year are now "reasonable" compared to most other Windows options. Alanis sang about nonsense like this.

Effectively, the only Arc G3 handhelds I can see on the horizon right now will set you back well over a grand. The OneXPlayer 3 should start at $1,399 if it survives crowdfunding, and while Acer did announce a Predator Atlas 8, I'm not holding my breath for that one.

(Image credit: Future) Don't get me wrong; if the longstanding PC giant can get one of those in my hands for cheaper than every other option out there, and offer a lower-spec non-extreme model, it'll firmly have my attention. Otherwise, it'll end up swiftly becoming vaporware, or arriving with a price tag that means it's not relevant.

The handheld is seriously suffering at the hands of AI data centre demand, just like the gaming hardware scene at large. I do think device makers can do a bit more to weather the storm, though, and that includes actually using cheaper chipset SKUs like the Arc G3.

It’s time for some criminal adaptations to stream this July! While it’s quieter than it should be based on the massive wave of adaptations we’re currently riding, I did still find you two new series, an action-packed mystery film, and a backlist film adapted from a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

Before I jump in, here are some things crime readers will want to have on their radar:

Murder 101 and Ride or Die are not adaptations. The first is a documentary film about a high school sociology class that took on a cold-case investigation, and the second is an international assassin film with a hell of a cast. Stream them on Amazon Prime July 13 and 15.

Also not an adaptation, but the creator of the show New Girl has taken a hard turn into crime writing with a new series on Hulu with Furious , which lands July 27. It follows an FBI agent after a female serial killer, with Emmy Rossum in the FBI lead role .

The second season of Batman: Caped Crusader streams on Amazon Prime beginning July 31.

Enola Holmes 3 (Netflix, July 1)

The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes #1) by Nancy Springer

Based on Nancy Springer’s same-titled middle grade mystery series, the star of this Sherlock reimagining is his younger sister, Enola Holmes.

Following the first two films in the adaptations series on Netflix, Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 , the third entry in the franchise brings all the same action and wonderful cast, along with a wedding in Malta. Catch Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Himesh Patel, Helena Bonham Carter, and Louis Partridge on their newest mystery case and adventure.

Lucky (Apple TV+, July 15)

Lucky , a Reese’s Book Club pick, follows a young woman whose life of crime is biting her in the ass when she can’t claim a winning lottery ticket without giving up her identity and going down for her crimes.

The Apple TV+ adaptation is written by Cassie Pappas ( Silo ) and novelist-turned-TV-creator/writer Jonathan Tropper ( This Is Where I Leave You ). The seven-episode series has an excellent cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Annette Bening, Timothy Olyphant, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

Victoria of Many Faces (Crunchyroll, July 7)

Victoria of Many Faces, Vol. 1 by Syuu, translated by Andria McKnight, with art by Nanna Fujimi

Seems fitting that a title with “many faces” would have many iterations. First, this was a light novel series by Syuu and Nanna Fujimi; it was later adapted into a manga series illustrated by Komo Ushino in 2022. Now it’s becoming an anime series!

Chloe is a spy who ends up betrayed by the organization she works for, so she quits–in the novel, she stages her own death–and opts for a simple life. Things don’t go as planned, thanks in part to a knight and a young girl. While Chloe’s organization is still looking for her, she discovers her spy skills still come in handy.

The Nickleboys (Amazon Prime)

The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

With the final book in Colson Whitehead’s excellent historical crime Harlem Trilogy releasing in July, I thought it was an excellent time to spotlight one of his other novels, which has an adapted film currently streaming on Amazon Prime . The novel won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

The story follows a young Black boy falsely accused of a crime in the 1960s that gets him sent to a reform school. The school is based on a very real school in Florida’s history where horrific abuses occurred, and almost 100 children died and were subsequently buried in unmarked graves.

As big-budget, blockbuster PC games have become increasingly more packed with cutting-edge graphics over the years, their minimum hardware requirements have naturally scaled upwards too. But there's one forthcoming game that has taken that quite a lot further than you'd expect, with the memory specs likely to cause more than a few raised eyebrows.

It's called Cinder City , and it's being made by one of NC Corporation's studios (Big Fire Games), a South Korean company better known for its many MMORPGs. As an "open-world cinematic third-person shooter set in a fallen near-future Seoul", you'd naturally expect the graphics to be all-singing, all-dancing, and the handful of images and footage I've seen all suggest that it's going to be heavy on your hardware.

A quick glance at the game's Steam listing suggests otherwise, as the recommended graphics card is merely a GeForce RTX 4060 . However, to reach that point in the listing, your eyes will have passed over the minimum and recommended system memory requirements, and those are frankly absurd.

The bottom line amount is 32 GB, with the publishers recommending that your PC has 64 GB of DRAM.

Either there are a couple of mistakes in those specs or the game is an unholy mess of non-optimisation. The CPU and graphics card min specs of a Ryzen 5 3600 and GeForce RTX 2060 are in line with current games, but 32 GB of RAM certainly isn't. And it gets really odd with the recommended specs, as the CPU jumps to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. That processor paired with an RTX 4060 makes no sense whatsoever.

But all of that pales in comparison to the 64 GB memory recommendation. That's at least $800 of DDR5 right there, and while there are plenty of PC gamers who loaded up their rigs when memory was cheap, few people are going to be doing that now in order to play Cinder City with high-level quality settings.

Although no confirmed release date has been given yet, there's still plenty of time for NC and BigFire Games to either correct the specs (assuming they're a mistake) or work on some optimisations to reduce the memory consumption. Cinder City is getting quite a bit of attention at the moment but perhaps not for the right reasons.
