Companies going all-in on AI are also seeing positive impacts on headcount

Entry-level roles saw higher-than-average growth, opposing existing research

Workforce gains aren't immediate – AI needs time to find its place within organizations

A new report has challenged the narrative that AI adoption has been leading to job losses, instead revealing that the companies making the biggest investments in AI are actually growing their workforces.

The study combines corporate AI spending data from Ramp's payment platform and workforce records from Revelio Labs to analyze more than 21,500 US companies, making it one of the biggest of its kind.

It concludes that high-intensity AI adopters increased their headcount by around 10% during the first two years after deploying AI, making AI good news for workers and labor after all.

AI adoption is causing companies to hire more workers

Clearly, only strong AI adoption has a positive impact on workers, because companies making modest investments didn't see any significant growth.

The study also stresses that the impacts are slow-growing – rather than seeing an immediate uptick in employment, it takes time for companies to integrate AI, discover productive use cases and hire more workers.

High adopters are defined as those who invested around $33 per employee per month during the first three months after adoption, compared with around $3 for low adopters.

It also challenges other recent research, asserting that entry-level employment actually rose by a higher-than-average 12% among high-intensity AI adopters. Other reports have implied that entry-level workers have been among the hardest hit.

Even though tech giants dominate the headlines, with Salesforce cutting nearly half of its support staff and Amazon notably cutting tens of thousands of workers, the Ramp/Revelio Labs report actually shows growth across more than just AI engineer roles, spanning sales, marketing, admin, finance, customer service and more.

While the research can't be used to predict long-term labor impacts, it does at least serve as a notice that workers aren't currently at risk of total redundancy, even amid job role shifts.

Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation on Friday, putting an end to the pro-European government he led since last November.

“I accepted the proposal to be Prime Minister with great responsibility and with the firm belief that I can contribute to changing things for the better,” he wrote in a post on his Facebook page. “But the moment I understood that I could no longer exercise my mandate in accordance with the principles and beliefs I have, I chose to leave.”

Moldovan President Maia Sandu appointed Munteanu to the premiership in November of last year. Both politicians backed policies geared toward facilitating the Eastern European country’s speedy accession into the EU.

But Munteanu’s stint as head of the country’s government was undermined by scandals that have rocked Moldova’s ministries and state-owned enterprises.

Last month Dumitru Vangeli, head of the MOLDATSA civil aviation safety agency, was dismissed after his university diploma and pilot’s license was determined to be forged . On Thursday Ministry of Agriculture State Secretary Tatiana Nistorică was detained on suspicion of bribery.

Vangeli publically denied the accusations, while Nistorică has not yet commented on her case.

At the press conference following Munteanu’s resignation Sandu said she expected “greater involvement in difficult decisions, a stronger public presence to listen to people’s concerns.” She also pushed back against Munteanu’s statement implying that he had not been free to address the challenges the country faces.

“Speculation that he wanted to combat abuses but was not permitted to do so is false,” she said. “The prime minister had a free hand to run the government as he saw fit.”

The president also said she would hold consultations with party leaders next week in a bid to name the country’s next prime minister, whom she said would also focus on pro-European policies. “Moldova’s path remains unchanged: reforms and EU accession,” she wrote on X.

Moldova was accepted as a candidate for EU accession in 2022, and last month the bloc’s member countries voted in favor of opening the first cluster of accession negotiations with Chișinău. Sandu has been the most visible face of the pro-EU drive, and leads the political opposition to the pro-Russian Party of Socialists, which is currently the country’s second-largest party.

A new X5 M60 is just around the corner with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.

The potent SUV could deliver upwards of 600 hp, slotting below the X5 M.

The current flagship ICE X5 is the M60e with a 603 hp inline-six hybrid.

The all-new BMW X5 may wear a thoroughly futuristic look, drawing on the company’s Neue Klasse design language, but a non-electrified V8 will still be part of the lineup. Not everyone is sold on the X5’s new styling, yet word that the eight-cylinder lives on should land well with enthusiasts who worried it wouldn’t.

The new X5 hasn’t been shown with the engine yet, but the first such model isn’t far off. BMW has confirmed an M Performance version arriving next year, tipped to carry the X5 M60 name and pick up where the outgoing X5 M60i left off.

Like that model, the new one will run a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with no electrical assistance. In the old M60i, it made an impressive 523 hp and slotted neatly between the regular models and the full-blown X5 M. BMW Blog anticipates a bump in output, possibly landing right around the figure of the new X5 M60e, which is rated at 603 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). That would make the two closely matched despite coming at the number from completely different directions.

No Hybrid Boost Necessary

The key difference is that whereas the M60e uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six working alongside an electric motor and a 26.5 kWh battery pack, the standard X5 M60 will have two extra cylinders, an extra turbocharger, and no electrification. Obviously, it won’t be as fuel efficient, but it should sound a great deal better doing its thing.

Of course, the V8-powered X5 M60 will not be the flagship version. The new X5 will spawn a fully-fledged M model, likely offered in both V8 and all-electric configurations. The V8 model will likely use a plug-in hybrid setup, perhaps similar to the one in the current M5 with its 727 hp. As the new X5 M will have a lot more power than its predecessor, that will give BMW the headroom it needs to also boost power from the M60 without stepping on the M5’s toes.

TL;DR

A new report claims that OPPO is discontinuing both Oxygen OS and realme UI on future global devices in favor of Color OS.

OnePlus is reportedly narrowing its operational focus strictly to India and China, while realme is winding down its Chinese business to focus on external markets.

Signs of a brand shutdown are emerging globally, with OnePlus recently steering EU users toward OPPO products alongside drying retail stock in the US and UK.

Rumors of OnePlus fading away have intensified in the past few months, and a recent report that said OPPO plans to integrate OnePlus and realme within itself signalled the demise of the once-acclaimed “flagship killer” brand. A new report is now adding fuel to the fire, claiming that even Oxygen OS is being folded into OPPO’s Color OS.

According to a Smartprix report citing an unnamed “highly reliable and seasoned industry insider,” OPPO has initiated a “sweeping consolidation” of its smartphone business. The report corroborates that both OnePlus and realme are being fully consolidated into the core OPPO brand. The big news is that Oxygen OS and realme UI are being discontinued on future devices globally in favor of Color OS.
