NASA's nuclear-powered mission to Mars is taking shape with the selection of Firefly Aerospace to design and manufacture the protective aeroshell that will shield the Skyfall spacecraft's descent stage during its plummet through the Martian atmosphere.

Skyfall, slated to be NASA's first-ever nuclear powered interplanetary probe , is scheduled to launch in 2028 with three helicopters similar to the Ingenuity drone that landed on the Red Planet with the Perseverance rover . The mission is being managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), in California, which just awarded Firefly a $13 million subcontract for the spacecraft component.

It will be the company's first project to be developed in its expanded Texas facility, Gloworks, and will lean on engineering expertise gained from its Blue Ghost lunar lander and Firefly's Alpha and Eclipse rockets, according to a company statement .

"We've proved our ability to execute off-Earth missions at a fraction of the cost and timeline through our successful Blue Ghost lunar mission," said Ray Allensworth, Firefly's vice president of spacecraft. "Now we’re applying these lessons learned and utilizing our proven technologies to continue accelerating and lowering costs for future missions to the moon, Mars, and beyond."

Blue Ghost launched in January 2025 , and successfully touched down on the moon about two months later, as only the second commercial lander to ever soft land on the lunar surface. For its Mars contract, though, Firefly will be aiming higher.

Firefly's aeroshell design will include the Skyfall capsule's heatshield and its backshell, providing the thermal protection it needs from the Martian atmosphere and the aerodynamic characteristics to guide it safely and accurately out of its exit from the vacuum of space. Unlike Blue Ghost, however, Firefly won't need to worry about an actual landing.

Instead of delivering its helicopter trio to Mars' surface, Skyfall will release them mid-descent, where they will take to immediate flight through the Martian sky to begin their resource mapping mission. NASA is calling it the "SkyFall Maneuver."

The mission aims to demonstrate the applicability of the helicopters' onboard prospecting instruments. NASA plans to use that data to scout for water ice on Mars' surface to study potential landing sites for crewed missions in the future.

Once Firefly completes aeroshell development at Gloworks, work will move to the company's Rocket Ranch in Briggs, Texas, where it will begin manufacturing and testing before being transported to JPL for spacecraft integration.

Eight years after its debut, the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny is no spring chicken anymore, but it remains a darling of the off-road crowd worldwide. To keep that going, Suzuki brought a modified version to JimnySunlight 2026 in Japan to gauge customer interest. It seems the response was overwhelmingly positive, as the company has officially greenlit the rugged kit for production.

The styling upgrades are inspired by the Jimny Nomade Monster Hunter Wilds Edition concept from the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, further refined into the Jimny Gozel Outdoor Concept. The latter was developed in partnership with AWIN, an established manufacturer of Suzuki’s factory-approved accessories.

The changes over the standard Jimny Sierra concentrate on the front end, with an aluminum-style bumper insert and a more pronounced skid plate with red details. The off-roader also gets a honeycomb grille with Suzuki lettering, red mud flaps, metal-like garnish on the side skirts and rear bumper, plus a custom spare wheel cover.

All of the aforementioned parts join the Suzuki Select Plus accessories banner. According to the automaker, they are offered for both the three-door Sierra and the five-door Nomade , meaning that only the narrow-body kei-class Jimny misses out on the optional upgrades.

In terms of pricing, individual pieces range from ¥33,000 ($200) to ¥66,000 ($400) before installation costs. Bundling the five-piece kit brings the total price to ¥269,500 ($1,658) for the Sierra and ¥275,000 ($1,692) for the Nomad due to the variations in the side skirt dimensions. Order books will open across Japanese dealerships on July 24.

Besides the Awin-made Gozel kit, Japanese buyers have many options when it comes to personalize their Jimny. More specifically, the Nomade is available with the Craggy Style, Rhino Style, Urban Edge Style, Nostalgic Line Style, and Metal Style packages.

Two US army websites were defaced on their 404 error pages

The messages included an expletive insult targeting Donald Trump and Tom Barrack

The messages appear to be written by people sympathetic to the Kurdish cause

Two pages belonging to the US Army had their error pages defaced with pro-Kurdish messages criticizing US President Donald Trump.

Cybersecurity researcher Ronald Lovelace discovered the defaced pages, before notifying both the US Army and Cyberscoop .

One of the messages on a 404 error page read, “FREE KURDISTAN,” while another said “Kurdish sr was here.”

Kurds deface Army websites

One of the pages defaced belongs to the Artificial Intelligence Integration Center (AIIC), and the second belongs to the Army’s Open Innovation Lab (OIL). These sectors of the Army were founded in 2019 and 2020 respectively, with the AIIC working to improve the integration of AI technologies within the Army and train personnel, while OIL established to help test new software and cyber capabilities.

The defaced error messages also labelled Donald Trump a “pedophile & thief,” likely referring to the President’s connections to financier and child sex offender Jeffery Epstein. An expletive message also referenced United States Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack.

Lovelace noted that the affected websites are hosted using WordPress and Microsoft cloud infrastructure. Numerous WordPress plugins are frequently exploited by hackers to gain control over websites, although how the hackers defaced the Army website still has not been confirmed. The websites have since been taken down.

Who are the Kurds and why are they targeting Trump and Barrack?

The Kurdish peoples are an ethnic group who occupy a stateless nation that covers southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, northwestern Iran, and northern Syria.

The US and the Kurdish people have worked together on numerous occasions, even being considered allies when it suited the US, particularly in the fight against Suddam Hussein and later against ISIS.

But the US has since turned away from supporting the people of Kurdistan, with the President recently endorsing a Turkish bombing campaign targeting the area of Kurdistan that falls within their territory, hence the messages targeting Tom Barrack.

It appears that whoever is responsible for the defacement of the US Army websites feel betrayed by this shift in policy.
