Skoda’s electric SUV beat three ’80s icons in a straight-line sprint.

It managed the win despite making the least power of the four.

On a longer road, all three classics might have driven away.

Anyone who came of age in the ’80s is living in a different world now. Back then, nobody would have guessed that the poster cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini would one day lose to a family SUV. Technology keeps chipping away at acceleration numbers, and the latest proof comes from a stunt staged by Skoda, the value brand of the VW Group.

The automaker took its quickest production model, the Skoda Elroq vRS , and lined it up against some of the most recognizable sportscars and supercars of the ’80s for a straight-line shootout. The opposition consisted of a brown Ferrari Testarossa, an orange Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary, and a burgundy Porsche 944 Turbo.

Back in their heyday, these machines were the undisputed kings of the road. However, ICE nostalgia is no match for the instantaneous torque of modern EVs , and the crossover won the drag race by a wide gap, leaving the legends behind.

Watching the footage closely gives a sense of what the four cars ran at the Dunsfold track. There’s no telling how gentle the drivers were with the clutches of these coveted classics , but the finishing order reflects their real-world launch performance well enough.

The Skoda Elroq vRS crossed the line at 19.19 seconds, followed by the Ferrari at 20.08 seconds, the Lamborghini at 21.22 seconds and the Porsche at the 22.10 mark.

While this particular drag race had a clear winner, it is worth noting that all three classics would easily beat the EV on a longer stretch of road. Skoda caps the Elroq’s top speed at 111 mph (179 km/h), well under the 162 mph (261 km/h) of the Porsche, the 180 mph (290 km/h) of the Ferrari, and the 188 mph (303 km/h) of the Lamborghini.

In any case, the flagship trim of the family EV with its dual-motor AWD setup produces 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS), allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.4 seconds. For comparison, the 5.2-liter V12 of the Lamborghini produced 449 hp (335 kW / 455 PS), the 4.9-liter flat-12 of the Ferrari was good for 385 hp (287 kW / 390 PS), and the turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine of the Porsche made 247 hp (184 kW / 250 PS) back when they left the factory floor.

Another advantage of the Skoda Elroq vRS over the classic models is its spacious five seater cabin and the generous boot capacity of 470 lt (16.6 cubic feet), making it significantly more practical as a daily in combination with the standard Dynamic Chassis Control system. Despite its larger body, it is also significantly more aerodynamic than the wedge-shaped supercars, with a drag coefficient of 0.26 cd.

Performance is one thing, but the silent electric powertrain is no match for the glorious sound of the 12-cylinder engines from the past. Furthermore, looks might be subjective, but we seriously doubt anyone would pick the Skoda over the Ferrari, the Lamborghini, or the Porsche in a beauty contest.

At the end of the day, it is fun knowing that a family SUV of today can outrun the coolest supercars of the ’80s. In fact, if you drive a Tesla Model Y Performance you can probably beat supercars from the ’00s. But which one would you rather have in your garage?

A massive upset took place on the domestic Netflix viewership chart recently, with a movie produced on a reported budget of $1.5 million overtaking a franchise tent pole. The small-budget movie was released theatrically five years ago. It received excellent reviews, but didn't make much of an impression at the box office. However, it found an audience on the PVOD market in the years since, and it seems to be carrying this momentum forward in its streaming run. The movie in question remains one of the top-rated Westerns of the decade , and its success can be attributed to the audience's newfound interest in the genre thanks to Taylor Sheridan 's culture-defining shows on Paramount+.

The Canon EOS R6 III is Canon's newest full-frame camera. We absolutely loved the R6 II when we reviewed it , and the Mark III's improved 32.5MP resolution, 7K video capability and CFexpress compatibility build on that strong foundation to take this camera from the beginner and enthusiast level straight into the serious intermediate camera category.

We primarily tested it for wildlife photography with Canon's 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, but the R6 III is such an impressive all-rounder, it can easily turn its hand to astrophotography, sports or event photography, too.

Existing Canon users will feel right at home with the Canon EOS R6 III, as the build and button layout are nearly identical to the R6 II, and similar to many other R-series bodies. We tested the R6 III with the Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens and found it comfortable to get a good grip on, and it feels satisfying in the hand, especially when paired with bigger lenses.

The LCD screen and viewfinder are exactly the same as the Mark II, but there are a couple of small differences elsewhere in the design. The R6 III now has a CFexpress Type B card slot as well as an SD card slot, allowing for faster workflows and data transfer. However, considering this camera sits in the more intermediate level, we have to question whether two SD slots would be more useful for the majority of users, especially because CFexpress cards are more expensive. Plus, we used fast SD cards during our tests and encountered no problems at all with the write speed or buffer.

Autofocus and subject detection are accurate and sticky

The Canon EOS R6 III features more advanced AI-powered autofocus, which enables it to track people, animals and vehicles more easily compared with the Mark II. When we were photographing animals at a zoo, the autofocus was generally very good, although there were a few occasions when the camera got confused. The focus jumped between the giraffe’s eyes, nostrils and ossicones, and the camera couldn’t quite figure out what to focus on, even when the animal was facing towards the camera with the eyes in view. There were also a few unfortunate occasions when the camera would find and track an "eye" on the — how do we put this — wrong end of the animal. Generally, though, it was fast and accurate.

In our review of the previous model, the Canon EOS R6 II, we said, "Considering it's the next step up from the Canon EOS R8, we'd hoped for a bump in resolution. Matching the 32.5MP resolution of the crop-sensor Canon R7 would have given the R6 II an even sweeter spot between the R8 and the 45MP powerhouse Canon EOS R5 II." It seems Canon was listening, as the 32.5MP sensor in the Canon EOS R6 III sits perfectly between the beginner and professional lineups. The images are clean, detailed and not too noisy, making this camera a compelling choice for photographic styles that require excellent resolution without excessive noise.

Blackout-free burst shooting up to 40FPS

Pre-continuous shooting

For wildlife photography, blackout-free shooting enables you to follow the subject a lot easier as it's moving, to ensure you can keep the subject centered and maintain your composition. What's more, with the R6 III, you can shoot up to a massive 40 frames per second (FPS) blackout-free, which is perfect for fast-moving wildlife. (Keep in mind, this means you need to hone your timing to avoid the "spray and pray" method and end up with tons of photos of the exact same moment). This is one feature of a wildlife camera that makes a big difference.

The R6 III also features pre-continuous shooting, where it'll record up to 20 frames (approx 0.5 seconds) before the shutter is fully pressed — another useful feature for wildlife and sports photographers who need to capture fleeting moments.

The Mark III uses the upgraded LP-E6P battery, shared with the R5 II, which offers significantly more shots per charge than the LP-E6NH in the R6 II. That said, it means that if you're upgrading from a different Canon model, your current spare batteries won't work in the R6 III, so you'll need to invest in a few spares. However, we managed to get more than 6,000 photos without having to swap out the battery, so you won't need to worry about the battery running out unless you're shooting all day for multiple days.

Should you buy the Canon EOS R6 III?

We can confidently say: yes, you should buy it. It seems to tick all the boxes for a lot of shooting scenarios, whether it's your main wildlife camera or a backup body for weddings. The 32.5MP sensor produces beautiful images with minimal noise and accurate color reproduction; it's lightning fast with a 40FPS burst speed and can capture up to 7K 60p video. However, if you're looking for a more serious pro-level camera, perhaps opt for the R1 or R3 instead.

Making a game is hard, or so I've been told by those brave enough to give it a go. Mistakes happen, and sometimes your game just doesn't work. That's what happened to the developer behind Red Flag, a social deduction game about convincing your friends you're fit to survive the apocalypse in a bunker with limited resources.

In a Reddit post last week (spotted by Automaton ), the small, first-time team explains that it had unknowingly submitted a broken build of the game to Steam on the day of the deadline to get into June's Next Fest. The review and approval process typically takes five to seven days, the developer explains, so it really was cutting it close.

"It was the weekend. [Steam] Partner Support doesn’t work weekends. We sent a desperate email to regular Steam Support, honestly just screaming into the void."

Steam replied saying the build was sent for urgent review to, hopefully, get it into Next Fest in time. And a few hours later, viola, the Red Flag's demo build had been approved.

"But there was a note: the reviewer couldn't launch the game. We’d messed up the C++ redistributable setup (forgot to use the Steam common redist system, shipped local DLLs instead)."

Instead of rejecting the game and sending it back to the developers to fix (which almost certainly would've caused it to miss the deadline), Steam's reviewer fixed the issue themselves.

"Steam Support actually edited our configuration, sorted the dependencies, and approved the build so we wouldn't miss the fest. We’ve now passed our first day of Next Fest, wishlists nearly doubled, and we’re actually meeting players in our own lobby. All because Steam Support went way above and beyond."

Turns out, this is quite a common issue, with several other indie developers sharing similar experiences in the comments. "They did this for me on my first upload, too. Thought it was very cool.", one commenter wrote . It's apparently just a few clicks on Valve's behalf to fix such an issue, but it no doubt saved a last-minute panic from the game's creators.
