Theorists propose a neutron star, not a singularity, sits inside a black hole

Two Chinese theorists have proposed a model in which a black hole's interior contains not a singularity but a whole, intact neutron star roughly 12 kilometres across, whose interior behaves according to known physics. If correct, the model would resolve one of astrophysics' most frustrating open questions — what actually lies beyond the event horizon. The singularity concept, where density becomes infinite and physics breaks down, would be replaced by a stable compact object.
