Stopping statins after age 75 did not raise death risk in low-risk patients, French study finds

A French "non-inferiority" study published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity found that stopping statin therapy in people over 75 with no history of cardiovascular disease did not increase deaths or serious complications compared to continuing treatment. The study does not recommend that doctors routinely discontinue statins for older patients, but urges individuals to discuss the option with their physician. Researchers cautioned the findings may not apply outside France.
