Russia frees ill American Robert Gilman after Trump–Putin phone call

President Donald Trump announced that Russia agreed to release 32-year-old Robert Gilman, a former US soldier imprisoned in Russia since 2022, following a phone call between Trump and Vladimir Putin. Trump said the release was granted largely on humanitarian grounds, as Gilman is ill and will travel to the United States for medical treatment.
