Five years of Taliban rule: Germany has not kept its evacuation promises

Five years after the Taliban retook power in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, Germany has still not fulfilled its promise to bring all Afghan local staff to safety in Germany. Many people remain stranded in Pakistan and Afghanistan, waiting to leave and exposed to potential reprisals. Berlin made the commitment immediately after the fall of Kabul but has since failed to follow through.
