Ex-Mexican governor charged over disappearance of 43 students in 2014
Ángel Aguirre, former governor of Guerrero state, has been formally charged with forced disappearance and obstruction of justice over the 2014 case of 43 students who vanished from the Ayotzinapa teacher training college on the night of 26 September. He is accused of ordering the destruction of surveillance footage that could have revealed what happened. The case has become a defining symbol of cartel violence and government impunity in Mexico. Aguirre was arrested last week.
