Tourists still swim in Tatra mountain lakes despite ban and fines
Tatry National Park rules prohibit swimming, washing and rinsing dishes in mountain lakes, rivers and streams, which serve as drinking water sources for mountain shelters and habitats for rare species. Despite the ban, violations occur most often during heatwaves and peak tourist season. The park authorities acknowledge the problem is not mass-scale but incidents are frequently shared by witnesses on social media.
