Trump memo lets private firms launch cyberattacks abroad — $1m escrow required

President Trump has signed a memo authorising private US companies to partner with the government in cyber operations targeting Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) that prey on Americans. Participating firms will be permitted to surveil, disrupt and destroy foreign information systems and networks. To join the programme, companies must escrow $1 million. American victims of cyber scams and fraud lose around $20,000 per incident on average.
