Bolesław the Wrymouth's testament: a brilliant plan undone by human nature

Medieval historian Prof. Bożena Czwojdrak of the University of Silesia argues that Bolesław the Wrymouth's 1138 statute was not an irrational division of Poland — similar succession arrangements were common among European rulers of the era. The geopolitical concept was designed to secure peace among his sons, but ultimately failed due to human ambition and dynastic conflict. Intriguingly, the original document has never been found, adding an extra layer of mystery to the statute.
