Romania shuts Cernavodă nuclear plant as Danube drought cuts cooling water

Romania has shut down the Cernavodă nuclear power plant — its only one — after extreme heat caused a dramatic drop in the Danube River's water level, cutting off adequate cooling water. The plant normally generates 20% of Romania's electricity and is not expected to restart within the next 10 days.
