World's first superconducting quantum heat engine could transform quantum computers
A tiny superconducting engine has converted heat near absolute zero into useful work for the first time, demonstrating the world's first cyclic quantum heat engine of its kind. Future autonomous versions operating inside quantum computers could eliminate large numbers of costly, noise-producing microwave cables. The breakthrough may help pave the way for practical large-scale quantum computing.
