English hospitals hit nearly 42°C as heatwave forces surgery cancellations

Hospitals across England recorded temperatures as high as 41.8°C during July's heatwave — 14°C above the NHS-recommended safe maximum of 28°C. Surgeries were cancelled after operating theatre cooling units failed, and some patients skipped appointments because they could not bear travelling in the heat. Ambulance services also struggled to keep medications at safe temperatures inside their vehicles.
