Afghanistan's secret schools: girls risk their lives to keep learning under Taliban rule
Five years after the Taliban banned girls from education in Afghanistan, some continue to attend secret underground schools at great personal risk. Journalists from Novaya Gazeta spoke with students, including 17-year-old Bahita, who reads "Mrs Dalloway" and described a soldier pressing a rifle to her forehead. Teachers and pupils alike face deadly consequences for defying the ban.
