LUX-ZEPLIN detector finds mysterious signal: possible dark matter trace

The LUX-ZEPLIN experiment recorded a rare particle interaction that cannot be easily explained as ordinary measurement background and appeared exactly where dark matter would be expected. Scientists have not yet announced a discovery — one signal is not enough. Additional data will allow assessment of whether this is the first trace of the long-sought dark matter particle.
