Russia's budget deficit to hit 3% of GDP, nearly double initial forecast

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said the country's budget deficit will reach 3.0% of GDP this year instead of the planned 1.7%. This marks a failure of efforts to reduce the deficit from the 2.6% level recorded in 2025. Tax increases and higher oil prices have failed to prevent the budget gap from widening, Reuters reports.
