Iceberg the size of Manhattan breaks away from Greenland
A massive iceberg comparable in size to Manhattan has calved from Petermann Glacier in Greenland — the largest calving of an Arctic glacier in years. Scientists investigating the event discovered a concerning mechanism: warm seawater flows beneath the ice shelf from below, accelerating its collapse. Experts warn that the same mechanism may threaten other ice shelves in the Arctic.
