Over 1 million children referred to mental health services in England — a record high
More than one million children were referred to mental health services in England in 2024–25, a 10% year-on-year rise and nearly double the 2018–19 figure, according to children's commissioner Rachel de Souza. She declared the country faces a "crisis" in young people's mental health and called for an overhaul of state support systems.
