German soldiers' memoirs from 1939: Poles were brave, not weak as propaganda claimed
Nazi propaganda portrayed the September 1939 campaign as an easy victory over a weak enemy, but memoirs of Wehrmacht soldiers tell a very different story. Their accounts describe Polish soldiers as courageous, well-trained and determined defenders. The resistance put up by Polish troops earned respect even within the ranks of the German army.
