Disney's live-action 'Moana' flops with $95M opening, losses up to $125M
Disney's live-action remake of "Moana" starring Dwayne Johnson opened to just $95 million worldwide and is projected to lose between $100 million and $125 million for the studio. The film marks another costly failure following the dilution of the Marvel brand on Disney+ during Bob Chapek's tenure. Current CEO Bob Iger had promised a quality-over-quantity approach, but the Moana remake has fallen well short of expectations.
