Exoplanet flybys may have triggered mass extinctions on Earth

Italian professor Daniele Fargion has proposed that some of Earth's mass extinction events may have been caused by close flybys of large planetary objects, not just asteroid impacts. According to the hypothesis, the gravitational pull of such exoplanets could have severely disrupted conditions on Earth, triggering catastrophic ecological collapses.
