Natural sugars — not just meat — helped fuel early human brain growth

Scientists examining four million years of hominin diets have found that natural sugars may have supplied glucose to fuel brain enlargement before cooking made starchy foods digestible. The findings challenge the view that meat consumption alone drove the evolution of larger human brains. Fruits and other natural sugar sources appear to have played an equally significant role in early human cognitive development.
