Probiotics may save bats from a deadly white-nose fungus
White-nose syndrome, caused by a deadly fungus, has spread rapidly to Canada's northernmost bat colonies in the Northwest Territories, shocking scientists with the speed of its advance. In May, biologists found dead and infected bats in caves near Fort Smith. Researchers are now racing to develop probiotic treatments to protect bat populations before species are lost.
