Iberian orca matriarch Toñi found with pellet gun wounds — Spain investigates
Spain's environment ministry has launched an investigation after Toñi, the oldest member of an endangered Iberian orca pod known for ramming boats, was spotted in the Strait of Gibraltar with markings on her dorsal fin consistent with pellet gun shots. Marine conservationists described a deliberate attack as an "act of extreme cruelty" against an endangered population. Toñi is the matriarch of the pod responsible for the well-known boat-jostling incidents off the Iberian Peninsula.
