Astronomers solve Tarantula Nebula X-ray mystery using four space telescopes

A composite image combining data from the Chandra, Hubble, Webb and retired Spitzer telescopes has helped astronomers resolve a long-standing puzzle in the Tarantula Nebula, a star-forming region 160,000 light-years away. Massive young stars there should heat gas enough to emit X-rays, but observations consistently showed far less X-ray emission than models predicted. The new multi-telescope data allowed scientists to identify the cause of the discrepancy.
