CRISPR therapy CTX310 reduces bad cholesterol by over half in single treatment
A Cleveland Clinic study published in "New England Journal of Medicine" shows that experimental gene therapy CTX310 reduces LDL levels by over 50% after a single treatment, with effects lasting one year. The method is based on CRISPR technology and blocks production of the ANGPTL3 protein, mimicking a rare natural genetic variant that protects against atherosclerosis. High LDL levels promote plaque accumulation in arteries and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
