CRISPR allows attacking blood cancer without destroying healthy cells

Scientists used CRISPR technology to remove the CD33 receptor from donor stem cells. This allows doctors to use targeted CD33 therapy against aggressive blood cancers without destroying healthy cells needed by the patient after transplantation. In a clinical trial involving 30 patients, the modified cells took successfully and appeared to protect healthy blood cells from treatment.
