It has been 2 months since the devastating news that Law & Order: Organized Crime would not be returning for Season 6 , leaving the future of franchise fan-favorite Christopher Meloni 's Elliot Stabler in limbo. It is no doubt disappointing for fans of the long-running crime franchise, though the good news is that the flagship Law & Order and its incredibly popular sibling series (as well as the one where Stabler originates), Law & Order: SVU, will both be returning for new seasons this fall. Naturally, questions have arisen whether or not Meloni could reunite with his longtime partner Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ) following his brief return in Season 27's premiere episode.

British Heart Foundation expects about 45 people a day to die over next decade if current trends continue

About 170,000 people are expected to die from heart-related conditions linked to obesity – one of the leading causes of preventable illnesses – by 2035, according to a leading charity.

The analysis, conducted by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), found that about 45 people a day are expected to die from cardiovascular disease linked to excess weight and obesity in England over the next decade, as long as current trends in obesity rates continue. In the UK, about two in three adults are living with obesity, and worldwide, more than half of adults and a third of children and young people will be overweight or obese by 2050 .

Chinese automakers are rapidly expanding new dealer networks across Canada.

Experts say entering America later could be surprisingly straightforward for brands.

Limited Canadian sales now matter less than bigger potential US opportunities later.

Several Chinese brands are preparing Canadian launches despite strict limits on vehicle imports and relatively modest sales prospects. But the appeal of the Canadian market has less to do with immediate profits and more to do with what it could teach manufacturers ahead of a potential future move into the United States, a new report says.

Canada recently opened the door to a limited number of Chinese -built EVs, allowing imports under a quota system that starts at 49,000 vehicles annually. That’s hardly enough volume to transform anyone’s balance sheet, especially when multiple brands are competing for the same customers.

Yet automakers including Chery, BYD, Changan and Lotus are all making plans. Some are recruiting dealers, others are carrying out testing programs, and several are already preparing vehicles for regulatory approval. And the reason they’re going to all of that trouble, Reuters reports, is that Canada’s automotive market looks remarkably similar to America’s.

Consumer preferences and budgets overlap heavily, regulations are broadly comparable and dealership structures operate in much the same way. That means any company that successfully establishes itself in Canada could gain valuable experience before eventually tackling the much larger US market.

Dan Hearsch, global co-leader of AlixPartners’ automotive practice, told Reuters that moving from Canada into the United States later would be like “flipping a switch.”

Eyes On The US Prize

Robert Karwel of J.D. Power Canada was even more direct in the same report, describing Canada as “the practice run for the US.”

That prospect continues to worry parts of the American auto industry. For years China was a growth market for Western brands, but now the tables have turned and Chinese automakers have rapidly expanded their global footprint over the past decade.

For now, the US remains effectively closed to China. Tariffs, restrictions on connected vehicle technology and political opposition continue to keep Chinese brands at arm’s length. Only this week Geely-controlled Polestar was effectively forced to pull out of the US due the Chinese software in its cars, despite Volvo (also Geely-controlled) recently being given a hall pass for the same thing.

But several executives appear confident that won’t always be the case.

“We definitely have the idea of selling cars in the United States,” Chery International president Zhang Guibing told reporters during a recent event in China, Reuters writes. “Everyone definitely has that idea.”

Ridley Scott is renowned as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, but he also has a surprising number of television credits. Scott has lent his name as an executive producer to many shows, but Apple TV's Dope Thief marks the rare series that he also directed an episode of. Getting an Academy-Award-nominated filmmaker to helm the debut installment of a streaming series might seem odd, but Dope Thief is an immersive and emotional crime drama that required a master storyteller to kick off. Thankfully, the precedent that Scott set for the show early on was continued throughout, as Dope Thief is a satisfying miniseries that packs in a fair amount of surprises along the way.

Commissioner calls for overhaul of state support after reporting 10% rise in young patient referrals last year

More than 1 million children were referred to mental health services across England last year, with referrals up 10% from the year previous, according to a report by the children’s commissioner, Rachel de Souza. She said the country faced a “crisis” in young people’s mental health.

The number of patients who had an active referral to children and young people’s mental health services across England surpassed 1 million for the first time in 2024-25. This was almost double the number recorded in 2018-19, and an almost 10% rise on the previous year.
