Putin on Japan's sanctions: "We would like to understand" the reasons
Vladimir Putin described Japan's sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine as unprovoked, saying Moscow had not given Tokyo cause to impose them. He stated that Russia poses no threat to Japan and has no territorial claims against it. The remarks come against the backdrop of a long-running dispute between the two countries over parts of the Kuril Islands.
