Mount Etna ash closes Catania airport for fifth consecutive day, stranding hundreds
Ash from Mount Etna has forced the closure of Catania airport for a fifth consecutive day — the longest such emergency since 2002 — stranding hundreds of summer holiday travellers during the busiest travel week of the year. The airport is expected to reopen in the early hours of August 15. Etna is Europe's largest active volcano.
